Not all ex-employees are eligible for unemployment insurance, as they must meet 2 indispensable conditions:

  1. To have lost their job involuntarily, i.e. to have been dismissed by the company.

  2. They must have been registered with the IMSS for at least 12 consecutive months.

If the ex-employee fulfils both conditions, he/she will have 30 calendar days to start the insurance procedure, after which he/she will no longer be able to apply for it.

The amount to be paid is 50% of the average salary of the last 6 months, with a ceiling of two minimum salaries.

The maximum duration of unemployment insurance is 6 months. During this period, the beneficiary must be actively seeking work and registered with the National Employment Service. If he/she finds a job before the end of the 6 months, he/she must inform the Ministry of Labour so that the benefit can be suspended.
