PTO / Vacation Days
Hungarian labor law does not prohibit using full annual leave before maternity leave. The allocation and approval of PTO usage is at the employer's discretion.
Once the PTO is approved by the manager, submit it in the WorkMotion Platform using Absence Type: Vacation.
Sick Leave (if needed)
It is also common that pregnant woman goes on sick leave before starting the official maternity leave
Submit any sick leave in the Platform using Absence Type: Sick Leave.
Upload or send me a medical note from your doctor via a ticket.
Maternity Leave (CSED)
In Hungary the official maternity leave (CSED) may begin up to 28 days before the expected date of birth.
The total duration of the maternity leave is maximum 168 days / 24 weeks.
Submit your leave in the Platform using Absence Type: Maternity Leave.
Upload or send the following documents:
Completed CSED application form
Copy of your pregnancy booklet (terhesgondozási kiskönyv):

Signed Szülési Szabadság Kérelem form indicating the maternity leave dates

Parental Leave
You are eligible for up to 44 days of parental leave (until the child turns 3) after your maternity leave.
During this leave, you are entitled to 10% of the absence fee, reduced by any GYED/GYES payments.
For example:
Gross: 2,168,000 HUF monthly
GYES: 28,500 HUF monthly (this is the amount in 2026)
Parental leave payment: 216,800 – 28,500 = 188,300 HUF gross for a whole month
Submit in the Platform using Absence Type: Parental Leave (maximum 44 days) and attach the parental leave request form.

Unpaid Leave (post-maternity leave)
You may also take unpaid leave while receiving GYED/GYES.
Submit in the Platform using Absence Type: Unpaid Leave with a written request at least 30 days before the start of leave.
