In France, we can use two different models to employ somebody as EOR

1) Portage Salarial with the Partner Neteem: the worker (salarié porté) is connected to a specialised entreprise de portage (Neteem), and the business that wants to benefit from the work (entreprise cliente) receives their services. Compared to a freelance set-up, the worker benefits from full social security coverage. This model is unique to France and can be used for up to 3 years (differences between unlimited and fixed-term contracts, though).

The "Portage Salarial" involves a three-way relationship between the worker (salarié porté), a specialised entreprise de portage, and the business that wants to benefit from the work (entreprise cliente). A key advantage for the worker/salarié is that they benefit from the full social security protection of an employee, such as paid holidays, unemployment and incapacity benefit, which are better than those of a self-employed person. They also benefit from professional third-party liability insurance. The portage firm bills the client firm/s and makes social security declarations and payments, deducting its own expenses and then pays the worker/salarié a regular “salary”.

2) The consulting model with Parakar or GoGlobal: the worker is employed as a consultant and serves the client on a consulting project. This model is used in most countries for employee leasing, but comes with certain strings attached. In particular, this set-up is in a grey zone in France and workers employed this way should not be integrated into the client organization in the way they could under portage.

Clients should, in any case, be informed about the options, as well as the advantages & disadvantages of each model.
